Reading stalwart Jeff Jones has been appointed the new team manager of Berkshire’s senior side.

“It is an honour and I am looking forward to working alongside players of the calibre of Bjorn Mordt and Shaun Udal,” said the 57-year-old.

Jones joined Reading in 1968 and made his Berkshire debut four years later. He made more than 160 appearances for the county before retiring in 1995.

The pace bowler also gained representative honours with the Club Cricket Conference and the Thames Valley League.

After retiring from the game, he took up coaching and since 1994 has been involved with the Berkshire under-16 and under-17 teams.
