Reading opted to bat and started strongly. Fergus batted with confidence showing a wide range of stylish strokes. He was ably supported by Aarav with both boys calling and running well to take quick singles. Fergus soon reached 28 runs when he retired not out. This brought in Gaajuran who also batted well hitting some powerful boundaries before retiring not out on 25. Embrook did manage to claim the wicket of Henry who had started well but was unlucky to be out caught for 4 runs. Aarav (25 retired not out), Sam (20 not out) and Raheel (19 not out) completed an impressive batting performance with Reading achieving a commanding total of 164 -1 in their 20 overs.
Embrook started their innings and were soon under pressure with both openers out in the first over. Good fielding from Gaajuran led to a run out, before Sam had the other Embrook opener out bowled on the last ball of the first over. Gaajuran also picked up a 3rd wicket when another Embrook player was bowled in his 2nd over. Gaajuran and Sam set the tone in their opening spell of 4 overs bowling with pace and accuracy to leave Embrook on 12-3. The whole team bowled and fielded well. Raheel and Aarav claimed the next 2 wickets both bowled. Embrook batsman Aadi offered some good resistance scoring 20 not out.
Good fielding and bowling by Josh, Fergus, Ajmal, Matthew, Nathan and Ezra meant that Embrook always found runs hard to come by. Henry also kept wicket very well. This pressure led to 4 further run outs. Embrook finished on 89-9 which means that Reading have started their league campaign strongly winning their first 2 games. Special mention must also go to 12th man Jibran who fielded well, and Zac who helped out Embrook who were a player short and bowled and fielded well. Thanks also to Dave Allen for umpiring and to Ben Sandiford for scoring
