U15's narrowly lose close game
Reading CC U15's played host to Peppard Stoke Row on a perfect summer's evening at Sonning Lane this Friday.
Captain Pranav won the toss and elected to bat and openers Ollie and Dubs made a steady start before Ollie unfortunately had to retire hurt. Kishore and Dubs continued the steady progress against a very impressive Peppard bowling attack to take the score to 35 before the first wicket (Dubs). Kishore and Coniah then Kishore and Pranav then looked to accelerate taking the score to 81 for 3 in the 17th over (Kishore 37, Coniah 11 and Pranav 13). Ralph, Zishan, Callum and Dan then looked to add quick runs in the last overs, but some spot on bowling and fielding saw a couple of tight overs and run outs, limiting us to 93 for 6 off 20 overs.
In reply, Coniah and Kishore started the innings with some fast impressive bowling, keeping stand in Wicket keeper, Ralph on his toes with some pacey deliveries. Both bowled through their 4 overs (Coniah 11 for 2 and Kishore 21 for 1). We then turned to the spinners to try take the wickets with Dubs returning an impressive 14 for 2 wkts from 4 overs.
Although we only had a relatively modest total to defend, the game looked to be heading to a close finish as we had Peppard restricted to 60 for 6 in the 13th over.
However, some determined batting from Peppard's number 5 (Bruun with 29 not out), eventually saw them home with 2 overs and 3 balls to spare.
Although this was a 4 wicket loss, the game could have gone either way until the last few overs with the opposition's extra match practice/fielding the only difference between the teams.
Despite losing the match it was a good performance from our young team, just great to be playing cricket in such lovely weather!
