A thrilling encounter took place at Ickenham Cricket Club as Reading CC 1st XI squared off against Ickenham CC 1st XI. Reading won the toss and elected to bat first, setting a competitive total of 215 runs in their allotted 52 overs, with some resilient batting performances despite early setbacks.

Reading CC 1st XI Innings:
Reading CC's innings got off to a shaky start, losing opener Waqas Ahmed to a sharp catch by Harrison Marner off Bayley Hall's bowling in the opening overs. The early collapse continued with Arjun Srinivasan falling shortly after, leaving Reading at 17-2. However, Praful Waghela anchored the innings with a well-crafted 53 off 54 balls, hitting 11 boundaries in the process. He was well supported by Yawar Tariq, who scored a handy 30.

Despite wickets falling at regular intervals, contributions from lower-order batsmen, particularly Jack Beaven with a crucial unbeaten 44, helped Reading post a respectable total. Ashwyn Rupasinha also chipped in with an eye-watching 20 run cameo. For Ickenham, Paul Sims and Bayley Hall were the pick of the bowlers, each claiming three wickets, while Ricky Small-Boyce took two.

Ickenham CC 1st XI Innings:
Chasing 216 for victory, Ickenham's innings mirrored Reading’s start, losing early wickets and finding themselves at 44-3. Elliot Evans (9) and Scott Wilsher (17) fell cheaply, while Jash Gandhi was run out for 9. However, a steadying partnership between Vivek Nair (36) and Harrison Marner (64) brought Ickenham back into contention.

Luke Beaven marked his return to the side with a three-wicket haul, including the pivotal scalps of Nair and Marner, proved crucial in halting Ickenham’s momentum. Adi Srinivasan also chipped in with two wickets to keep the pressure on. Despite a valiant effort from the lower order, with David Morgans remaining unbeaten on 23 and Bayley Hall contributing 19, Ickenham fell short by 16 runs, finishing at 199/8 in 48 overs.

In a well-contested match, the game ended as a draw with both teams falling agonisingly short of taking all the points. Key performances from Praful Waghela and Jack Beaven with the bat, supported by disciplined bowling, especially from Luke Beaven, saw a lot of positives to take from the game.

Although the game ended as a stalemate, a few after the game most certainly had something to celebrate as they saw their country lift the t20 World Cup! ??
