Reading 2s travelled away to Hurst on Saturday 15th June for their first game of the season in the traditional format.
Heavy rain in the morning led to a delayed start and a reduced game. Hurst's opening bowlers bowled tightly and threatened frequently, reducing the visitors to 33/6. Luke and Raheel managed to stabilise and build a small partnership before another rain delay occurred and further shortened the game. Shortly after the delay, both set batsmen fell leaving Reading 2s 9 down after a couple more wickets, late resistance from Thisara gave Reading a fighting chance at 116 all out. Early wickets from Raheel and Thisara left the game in the balance at 29/3, until Hurst's numbers 4 and 5 were able to dig in and build a partnership giving them the upper hand. Reading began to pick up regular wickets after the drinks break through Inderjeet and the returning Luke Beaven, however, fell just short of the win as the home team chased their target 8 wickets down. Top effort from Reading to defend a very below-par score.
