Reading 4's vs Bradfield 3's (Matchday 7)

Bryn Davies

Reading 4's back to winning ways

Reading 4s came into this game after a shock loss to Aldershot 4s last week, however, fortune was also on Readings side with Sulhamstead 4s also losing that week and currently top of the table by 1 point. The grudge match was only a few weeks away now meant this was a must-win for Reading 4s.

With the toss being won by Aniq, Reading 4s went into bat first with Vik and Umar opening the batting.

Both openers started well waiting for the bad ball and rotating the strike when needed. A short ball was the shortcoming for Umar as he was caught on the boundary after not cleanly hitting the shot, out for 16 after looking good in the opening overs.

Zain came in at 3 and again looked comfortable moving the ball around with Vik hitting the boundary shots. A fine cut shot was however fantastically grabbed by one of the younger players and Zain was dismissed for 3. Vik and Ali were now in and after scoring 150* last year Ali was looking to build on that. Vik fell shortly after Ali came in for a respectable 25.

Ash came in at 4 to accompany Ali again both looking to build on a good scoring start even though wickets had fallen.

Some dangerous bowling from youngster Marley, 12, with some in swingers and moving off the seam caught All out with a good catch from the wicketkeeper, with Ali only scoring 8 this time around.

Khuram and Ash was the partnership that made Bradfield struggle with runs coming plenty. Ash moved to 66 before being caught LBW and Khuram climbed to 99. Haseeb had replaced Ash and gave the strike to Khuram to get his 100. However, with the last ball and Khuram trying to play a cheeky shot behind, the wicketkeeper anticipated well and caught him out for 99 on the last ball.

A final score of 250-6 after 40 overs put Reading 4s in a commanding position.

Bradfield 3s didn't get off to a good start with a plum LBW not given to Aniq's second ball into the first over, the pressure was set straight away with a low-scoring over rate. Aniq kept bowling well but had no reward, but Adi "The Menon" took a magnificent 5fer from his 8 overs and went for only 18 runs. Aniq also finished 7 overs, with 3 maidens and only going for 12 runs. Just one of those weeks.

Haseeb and Karan came into the attack with Haseeb grabbing a wicket from his 5 overs and Karan grabbing a wicket from his 6 overs. Arshdeep came into the attack and finished off the tail-enders grabbing 2 wickets from his 3 overs. Bradfield 3s bowled out for 61 in 29 overs.

A thorough victory for Reading 4s who go away to Yateley 3s next week before Sulhamstead 4s on July 6th at home.
